This is important because the sooner the gases leave the engine the sooner the air fuel mixture for the next engine cycle can enter the engine. If the exhaust gases are slow to leave they create what is called a back pressure. The fuel air mixture for the next engine cycle has to overcome this back pressure to enter the engine combustion cylinder. However if with the help of a cat-back exhaust the back pressure is reduced the air fuel mixture can rush in faster leading to an improved engine performance.

A cat-back exhaust is called a cat-back exhaust because it is located after the catalytic converter. It is made up of pipes and a muffler. These pipes are of larger diameter and have special bends so that the back pressure is minimized. The function of the muffler is to absorb the sound that the exhaust gases would make. The final vent from where the exhaust gases enter the atmosphere is a visible part of the cat-back exhaust and is often stylized to add to the aesthetics of the car.

What is the BEST motor oil to use for an every day street vehicle that I use for occasional racing?

I have a 2000 Honda Civic SI with 170,000 miles and I currently use Castrol Syntec 5w 30. I have DC 4 to 1 headers w/ DC full back cat exhaust, AEM V2 air intake, Nology hot wires w/ Nology silver 1 plugs, and I'm soon going to be hooking up my MSD sports compact ignition w/ MSD cap and rotor. I have a friend telling me to use Royal Purple but I want the best application for my type of driving. As you can tell I drive alot and I want an oil that gives me the most power for both uses (regular driving and racing) so some advice would be greatly appreciated! THX

I wish I could tell you what the "best" motor oil is, but, even if I could, that would just be an opinion, not fact. A good rule of thumb is how much it costs per quart. In this case, you will probably get what you pay for. 20-50 weight is a good viscosity range.
