Here are some more information for Snow Trail:

Hiking is one of the world's most popular pastimes; however, what do you need to be a hiker, well some elevated slope is a strong start, but what about your clothes? You want to stay comfortable and protected while out on the trail. What types of clothes should a hiker wear, let's take a look and find out.
If you are hiking on a regular basis then you should not limit yourself to just one outfit, the weather should play a key influence on what style of clothing you should wear. A great tip for all hikers would be to wear layered clothing, which is essentially layers of clothing, this way you can always change clothes quickly and simply, which in turn allows for maximum comfort. If you want to avoid feeling sticky and moist through perspiration, then wearing polyester micro fiber as your base layer is advised.
Another key component in your decision of hiking clothes should be the length. You do not want to leave any part of the skin showing (apart from you face) as this could lead to burning, scratched, bitten or grazed skin. Therefore, if the day is hot, wear something long which has breathable materials, so you can stay safe but cool.
Water-resistant clothes are also extremely handy to have on you, even if you do not wear them to start. My recommendation would be a waterproof cagoule, which are lightweight, easy to carry and easy to put equip yet they also do an effective job at braving off the rain.
Let us not forget about the footwear! To decide on the best footwear, you need to answer the question, where am I going? If you are off walking across rocky terrain then durable footwear should be your number one concern, however, if you are trailing through the woods then you can opt for something lighter. Make sure your footwear is always comfortable regardless of the surroundings, due to the amount of time you will be hiking for. Socks are also extremely valuable, there are hiking socks, which reduce friction, however, wearing two pairs of socks can be just as equally effective.
As for headgear, it is always a smart idea to wear some hat to fend off sunburn, or to act as protection from the rain. It is also a smart idea to wear high protection UV sunglasses, as the sun can be a pest when trying to navigate through harder terrains.
If you hike in the snow, then your clothing should be much different to this. Polyester clothing is essential as it will not hold perspiration, which in cold conditions can chill up and become dangerous. Your clothing should also be windproof and water resistant. However, layered clothing is essential as you do not know how cold it is going to be, therefore, wearing too many clothes is much better than not enough.
As many hikers will know, there are a range of shops that offer specialized hiking clothing, and you should always be looking for items that have been listed above, as they will be the items that are best suited to make sure you have a pleasurable experience.

Meeting The Challenge On The North Coast Trail
The North Coast Trail in Cape Scott Provincial Park on Vancouver Island is a hiking destination for those who are up to challenge, as well as wanting to see some of the most incredible ecosystems in Canada. It is challenging. Considering the attempts to settle the area, and the utter failures, we get an idea of how difficult living in the area can be. As a hiker, anyone who has bush-wacked through coastal forest knows how extremely difficult and dangerous it is. When the rain, hail, snow, and wind come, the weather becomes a new obstacle. Then, every corner around a tree could mean an encounter with a black bear, a cougar, or a wolf. But this is life in BC, and those who know it, love it and would not miss these challenges for anything. But it takes something to get out there and meet the challenge. I don't want to scare you away. I want to excite you and pique your curiosity. The challenges are well worth the rewards along the trail, and at the end.
What do you need to make it through this incredible hike? The first thing is a sense for adventure. The first time out on the trail means everything is unknown, even with a good guidebook. The overland trails are really only foot tracks through the hidden, fallen jumble of deadfall trees. The level areas are bog. On dry days, the boardwalks over the bogs can make for fast hiking, but on wet days, they are just like a kid's Slip-N-Slide. Any false step and down you go. Then there is the mud and puddles lined with spongy moss, calf deep. Mind you, the bogs are one of the most striking habitats on the hike. It is a very fragile environment and well worth the slower hiking to really look at the incredible plants beside the boardwalk. On the beach trails, the tides can drive you up the beach to the steeper slope, making it a lop-sided walk on the beach. Hiking through the forest with a 22 to 25 kg pack, up and over roots, trunks, and through streams only complicates the scene. The long stretch, called the Sutil Scramble can be very tiring at high tides, scrambling along the steep cobblestones at the top of the beach. The hope of seeing wolf tracks, bear tracks, eagles nests, and humpback whales just offshore drive you on to the next camp. The main challenge is over after Nissen Bight, as you enter the original Cape Scott Park area. Here, you can read about the challenges of the settlement attempts, walk along the long, sand beaches, and join the light keepers at Cape Scott Light Station for a cup of coffee (if they are not running low that day). These features of the hike awaken the sense for adventure, providing a draw to set that goal to hike the trail.
Knowing these difficulties lie ahead on the trail calls for courage. Getting up in the morning, getting packed up, and simply setting off, helps feed the courage to get back on the trail, meet the unknown scenes around the corners and over the hills. Knowing that most of the animals living in the park are solitary and shy helps to muster enough courage to move forward. Making sure your gear is up to the task helps with being brave enough to set up camp in the lonely campsites and walk right through the middle of the puddles, conserving energy for other activities at camp at night. Having some knowledge of the trail also brings courage to set off down the trail, knowing that at the end of the day, you will end up at the right destination. Hiking with a group is also great for courage building, and it is great to share the load and the experiences with someone else. Courage on the North Coast Trail is absolutely necessary, but it is easy to set yourself up to support that courage.
Along with the sense for adventure and courage, you need to make sure you exercise a bit of caution along the way. Understanding the risks and how to minimize them almost guarantees caution. Risks are everywhere. In our regular lives, we learn how to manage the risks we face each day. The process is the same out in the challenging wilderness environment. The more you understand, the better you can manage the risks by exercising caution. The terrain calls for caution in each step. The long days demand caution with managing your water and food intake to ensure you have enough energy not to get clumsy. The wild animals live among anyone who lives in BC, so finding out how to deal with encounters is easily taken care of beforehand. Caution with your level of warmth is a major challenge factor that can influence the whole trip. Learning how to manage your warmth and being cautious about wetness and warm clothing is essential. All of these things are necessary for packing up and heading out to the North Coast Trail.
Preparing for challenging hikes needs to be taken seriously. Researching about the trail helps understand the difficult aspects and ensures that some thought and planning have been done before setting out. Altogether, any hiker needs to find the challenges and meet them with a sense of adventure. The hiker needs to muster up the courage to get ready and go forward to meet the challenges, and caution needs to be exercised, based on knowing how to meet the challenges and risks on such a challenging but rewarding hike as the North Coast Trail.

What hiking trails are really open during winter times in Seattle area?
Hi!
The Mountain Loop Hwy is closed, so many of the hiking trails are out of reach. Many people said the Boulder River Trail is great this time of the year but it's not: I've been there twice now and there is too much snow.
Are there any trails in winter (untill May) still open? I don't mind driving a few hours.
Thanks!
I believe most of the lower trails in the Olympic National Park are open. The Storm King starting point west of Port Angeles has multiple trails starting there (including the easy 30 minute Marymere Falls trail), and it takes less than 2 hours to reach from Seattle via ferry from Seattle or Edmonds and drive across Hood Canal Bridge and through Sequim and Port Angeles).
Wet snow, howling winds pack wallop across southern Alberta
A winter-like storm that pounded southern Alberta Thursday left the region awash in wet snow, forced numerous vehicles into ditches along major highways and cut power temporarily to tens of thousands of customers.
