The fertile plains of the Sacred Valley made it a prime settlement area for the Incan population, with its pleasant climate perfectly suited for farming. Sacsayhuaman

Pisac and Urubamba

The town of Pisac is well-known for the market it hosts three times a week, which never fails to attract interested tourists from nearby Cusco. However, Pisac is also one of the most attractive destinations on Peru's Sacred Valley tour with well-preserved Incan farming terraces which are still in use today. If you hike up to the nearby citadel and take a look at the intricate stone work and fully functional irrigation system, you will find it hard to believe that it was built some 500 years ago.

Ollantaytambo

The granite monoliths of Ollantaytambo continue to baffle scientists to this day. The town also has an unfinished temple to the Sun God, which remained uncompleted years before the Spaniards arrived, and probably stayed this way due to the onset of mass disease.
